Pierrakakis: We need a unified and effective market in Europe

European unification needs to be made deeper, National Economy and Finance Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis said at the Berlin Global Dialogue 2025, speaking of the new balances being created in the global economy.

Governments and states are facing two existential challenges, the Greek minister said, namely, the aging population (which directly affects the growth and viability of public finances), and the exponential curve of innovation (which challenges economic systems and institutions).

Facing these challenges means getting rid of useless bureaucracy and becoming more ambitious, faster, more flexible. “We do not need 27 efficient markets – we need a unified and effective market,” Pierrakakis noted in a Facebook post in Greek.

He added, “The development of the Savings and Investment Union is crucial to strengthening cross-border cooperation and unlocking Europe’s growth potential.”
