Tornado kills one, injures four near French capital • FRANCE 24 English

It took just seconds for the tornado to topple these construction cranes, one after the other. Gusts of wind of up to 200 km an hour tear everything in their path, like these roof tiles. The residents of this building frantically try to hold their windows shut. They’ve just seen the crane fall right in front of their home. I agree. This family whose home was damaged is now staying in a school gym. It started with a very, very strong wind that grew in intensity. Then a crane fell. I thought it was the end. When I saw the crane falling towards us like that, for me, it was the end. The violent wind struck throughout the town of Armo and the surrounding area, leaving chaos in its wake. uprooted trees, debris, and broken glass. A car lifted by the wind and thrown against the wall of a block of flats. This man in his 70s was in bed when the tornado hit his house. It was hitting hard on that side. I was watching TV. Suddenly, the windows shattered and glass and bits of tiles flew at me. I ran downstairs to join my wife and take shelter in the cellar. There was enough time to be scared despite the shock. His neighbor suffered the same damage. It really looks like a crime scene because as you can see, it’s just everywhere. Everything in his garden went flying. This is the neighbor’s fence from over there. When your children come down crying and you’re Well, there’s nothing you can do really. We just waited. We waited for it to pass because unfortunately there’s nothing you can do against nature. So, well, it was really scary. I won’t lie. 40 homes were still without power Tuesday.

A tornado tore through districts north of Paris on Monday, toppling three construction cranes that killed one person and left four others with critical injuries, authorities said. The town of Ermont, about 20 kilometers northeast of Paris was worst hit by the sudden twister that caused damage across about 10 districts. FRANCE 24’s Emerald Maxwell reports.

  1. Standing next to windows during a tornado is INSANE! Perhaps since climate change will both strengthen the intensity of and increase the number of tornados in Europe it might be time to put out some basic rules for how to stay safe in a tornado.
