Hey everyone,
I live in Germany and have a completely normal German phone number — but for the past few weeks I’ve been getting random calls from the US (Massachusetts and Texas, e.g. +1 857-754-6350, +1 512-982-1525, +1 617-767-0680).

I have absolutely no connection to any American companies or services, so it’s really strange.
Once I picked up out of curiosity — there was just silence (I didn’t say anything either).
And today they called again, mispronounced my name, and hung up right after I stayed quiet. 😬

I’m blocking these numbers now, but it still feels kinda creepy.
Has anyone else experienced something like this? Are these scam bots or what’s the deal?

  1. Most likely scam calls, trying you to call back and pay a lot of money for doing so. Just ignore and block them. Or forcing you for some scetchy subscription, … .

  2. Scam/Spam Bots that just call either random numbers until they actually hit an existing number or your phone number was part of a data leak and is therefore part of a spam list that spammers/scammers buy to do these calls.

  3. I get random phone calls from Poland. Have you entered your number on any sketchy websites?

  4. Likely Some company either sold your info or was compromised and your info leaked.

Best thing is to enable the “screen unknown callers” option in the phone settings on your iPhone.

  5. Most likely a fake forwarding number. They are more likely calling from India. I had that a few times.

  6. As people say it’s spam and scam calls. Never pick them up tho, they look what numbers actually pick up and will try to pull stuff, that’s why they called back and knew your name, probably looked it up somewhere or there might’ve been a data leak.
Block them and if it doesn’t stop then you might need to change your number, that’s only in the worst case tho.

  7. If you would post your number we could check why you get those calls… /s

  8. It’s definitely a scam. It’s best to block any such number.

  9. Uncle Sam just wanna say hi and talk to you about taxes

  10. Sie haben mich ins Gesicht angerufen! Sie begehen eine Straftat!

  11. Foreign numbers are almost always scam calls. If you have the option, just block everything from outside Germany and whitelist only specific numbers you’re in contact with.

  12. They are trying to reach you about your extended warranty

  13. ICE is looking for you….they are scam calls obviously.

  14. My doctor sent me a message from a US number once to remind me of an appointment. Likely some bought service that’s hosted in the states and they didn’t realize. Maybe it’s something similar here?

  15. I get spam calls from international numbers every week. It’s not unusual.
