2. I don’t believe either candiate was a good call. Even the one I’d voted for, I had to hold my nose, being on the opposite end of a few of my principals.

   I’ve read a few reports this morning, there were more spoiled votes counted than for Connaly in a few consituencies. Including one with a message that thanked the counters for thier hard work.

3. Even before the election she was the most person I thought could handle the position in a way comparible to the grace and conviction of Michael D. I’m sure she’ll be a considerate president that listens to all and a warm presence to have in Áras. 4. God she’s a fucking disgrace. Our options this time were so abysmal. Highest spoiled vote rate in history by a mile. This whole presidential run has been scandal after scandal. Mcgregor makes an embarrassment of a run, making it to even the whitehouse, lead candidate has to drop for being an abusive landlord, leaving us with just trainwrecks of candidates. Connoly is a full on Russian supporter. She’s compared Germany to nazi germany for suggesting Europe should defend themselves against Russia. She’s a nutter.

   Still better than the alternative whose dad is a member of the orange order and was involved with it, the orange order for context are an anti Irish terrorist group in the north. They literally have yearly bonfires where they burn mannikins they make of irish and migrant children, it’s bizarre, one of their catchphrases is literally kill all taigs.

   So Connoly won not because anyone actually liked her but because the only other option quite literally has anti irish terrorist links.

   This election had the greatest spoil rate in Irish history by a mile. I think everybody is dreading having this absolute loon suck Putin off on an international stage and embarrass us to our allies at every single opportunity.

   I just want to clarify because we’re gonna get 7 years of shit every time she criticizes Ukraine and NATO that we did not vote for her, in Ireland the public don’t really choose the president, the councils and parties decide who gets to run. The public literally had a choice between two candidates and one of them was Orange Order affiliated.

5. Worth pointing out it’s looking like a record low voter turnout and record high spoiled votes (possibly more spoiled than for actual candidates in some areas.) It’s a win for connolly but hardly a ringing endorsement for her or the entire political establishment.

7. Just saw someone say that she’s ’pro-Iran’, ‘anti-EU’ and ‘pro-Russia’

   As far as I can tell this is a complete smear with 0 evidence whatsoever.

   She’s not anti-EU, she’s against the ever furthering militarisation of the EU and the double standards shown towards Israel and Russia. Both fairly milquetoast stances.

   She’s on record condemning Russia and supporting sanctions against the country. Describing NATO accurately is not the same as being pro Russia.
