Women and non-binary people were encouraged yesterday to stop all paid and unpaid work for the entire day, just as women did 50 years ago, in 1975.
Photographers from mbl.is captured the atmosphere around the city throughout the day.
Plenty happening across the country
Organized events took place all over Iceland, with a particularly busy schedule in the capital area, including open houses, art exhibitions, performances, film screenings, and musical events across Reykjavík.
A lively historical walk
In the afternoon, a historical walk highlighting key milestones in Iceland’s fight for women’s rights was held. Participants were free to walk at their own pace, while performances, art, improvisation, stand-up comedy, and singing took place at various points along the route.
The walk concluded at Arnarhóll, where an outdoor rally began at 3 p.m. yesterday.
