  1. > “I was drunk and driving my car here in California in a blackout, no clue where I was going, when I realized that I could have killed somebody — or myself, which I didn’t care about,” he told the outlet. “I came to my senses and said to an ex-agent of mine at this party in Beverly Hills, ‘I need help.’ ”

    > He continued, “It was 11 o’clock precisely — I looked at my watch — and this is the spooky part: Some deep, powerful thought or voice spoke to me from inside and said: ‘It’s all over. Now you can start living. And it has all been for a purpose, so don’t forget one moment of it.’ ”

  2. I’m currently 9 months sober – really need and love to hear stories like this especially from a legendary actor like Sir Anthony. I know I’ve got a long road ahead but it gets better every day. My girls are my motivation. I want to live my life and be there for theirs. Thanks for posting OP!

  3. As a person with autism, I look up to Anthony for his amazing acting!!

  4. Almost 1.5 years for me..it wasn’t fun at the time but the day I quit was the best thing that’s ever happened to me.

  5. Hannibal wouldn’t just be a cannibal but also a murderer

  6. One of the worst things about being blackout drunk is that you always think you can drive

  7. I’m 51 days today. It’s nice to hear the stories from others, especially Mr. Hopkins. Gives me hope for my future.

  8. I quit drinking entirely a little over 10 years ago for very similar reasons. I was an incorrigible drunk driver, for reasons that don’t matter because they aren’t morally justifiable, but I knew that moderation was beyond my capabilities & that my luck (or god forbid someone else’s) would run out eventually.
