Hurricane Melissa rapidly intensifying, forecast to become a rare Category 5

1. Rapidly intensifying Hurricane Melissa, now a category 3 major hurricane, is forecast by NHC to peak as a category 5.

   The hurricane is forecast to make landfall on Jamaica as a powerful category 4 or 5 hurricane in 2-3 days.

5. Probably would be best if we all donated to Red Cross for Jamaica now, instead of waiting till Tues. to begin to do it. All the lowlands are gonna be flooded and airports are already closed.

6. Melissa’s extreme threats:

   Jamaica, Haiti and the southern Dominican Republic will face the worst of the storm into at least early next week. Next in line for strong winds, storm surge and flooding rain will be eastern Cuba, the southern Bahamas and Turks and Caicos.

9. This is gonna be dead center on Jamaica, the island will be hit and it’s gonna be bad. Side note if you’re on the island scrolling reddit, I’d be in a shelter by now, it won’t be pretty.

16. Fuckkkkkk that’s not good. Jamaica is literally getting hit directly. Puerto Rico seems to be clear though, but I hope it doesn’t intensify too much.

19. I knew it wasn’t going to end well when it has been camping the same spot for days now. Moving extremely slowly which is bad as it gives it time to strength itself. Hopefully it doesn’t linger for long once it reaches landfall. it has potential be the worst disaster in the history of Jamaica. 😥

20. Worried for my family on the island but there’s nothing we can do outside of check in and hope they get to safety. 🫠

24. Hurricane Maria hit PR in a similar way and killed twice as many people as Katrina(despite not getting anywhere near the media coverage)

27. I wonder if there will be proper reporting of this, or the media will just keep laughing at how exciting Trump is and how him being a fascist is so entertaining.
