Choe will be in Russia “on a working visit,” the statement said.

North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui is set to visit Russia for a three-day working trip, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.

Choe will be in Russia “on a working visit,” the statement said.

Russian Ambassador Alexander Matsegora saw the minister off at the airport, the Russian embassy in Pyongyang reported, adding that Choe will hold talks with her Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov “on bilateral relations and international policy issues.”

During her trip, Choe will also visit Belarus, the North Korean state news agency KCNA reported, without providing further details.

Choe “will visit the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus at the invitation of the foreign ministries of Russia and Belarus,” the statement said.

The announcement comes against the backdrop of planned U.S. President Donald Trump’s visit to South Korea for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum.

American media reported that Trump administration officials discussed in private meetings the possibility of a meeting between him and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, with whom he last held talks in 2019.

Trump has stated that he hopes to meet Kim again, potentially later this year.

Kim recently met with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko at a military parade in Beijing in September, commemorating Japan’s surrender in World War II.

Relations between Pyongyang and Moscow have deepened in recent years, with North Korea reportedly sending troops to Russia to support its war effort in Ukraine. |BGNES
