It really should be a personal choice. That seems a bit excessive. People paid for the tickets keeping this band in business so should be permitted to take a photo/video if they wish.
I dreaded opening the mail though, thought it was a cancellation/postponement
What’s the capacity of this concert?
More posts about it than Ed Sheeran.

Haha I guarantee we will see loads of videos of it by tomorrow.
Obviously, you shouldn’t be recording the whole thing but I don’t see any harm in taking a few photos with friends to remember a good night. Seems a bit heavy-handed.
I personally don’t get missing half a gig cos you’re spending half your time recording it on your phone but to each their own. What does annoy me is people recording with their flash light on! You’re trying to record a stage thats 50 or 500m away… your little camera light isn’t going to do anything except really fucking annoy everyone around you!
What a tool….
They had the same rule in 2006 in the point. Makes for such a better show
And you just know when people are kicked out they’ll be asking why! 🙄
They did this on the 10000 days tour (whatever year that came out) before camera phones. Back then they claimed it was the flashes would mess with the lights, lasers, imagery etc that they use. They had a camera cloak room and bouncers were turfing people out that tried to take photos.
Maynard should stop the whole show exactly 3 mins 56 seconds into Jambi to remind everyone to put away their phones.
I went to the gig ages ago in Dublin when Mastodon were supporting. Phones were allowed but as soon as you took it out security guards would start approaching you.
They usually put on an amazing lazer/light show
Be interesting to see how this goes down.
Pretentious bellends
I don’t get the distain for phone use at a concert. There’s a difference between taking literally a couple of photos every few songs or so, compared to if you were to actually record and be non stop with the photos. Any concert I’ve been at, I’ve always be 100% in the moment and I’ve excellent quality photos to remember them by, so the whole “no camera policy” reeks of pretentiousness to me
Was it good OP?
I was at a gig on Tuesday and was shocked by the complete lack of phones. It was so refreshing. I think we’ve come full circle
It was a phenomenal gig. Security weren’t as strict on phones as I thought and you could sneak in a few shots throughout the gig if you picked your moments.
Maynard turned around for the last track and said “and now you can take out your shitty devices and film us. Except the wanker in the front row with the flash, don’t be a dick”
The band have a strict policy against flash photography. Easy to see why given the complexity of the songs it has to be a distraction having thousands of flashes while your playing with odd time and metric modulation.
Brass Against were also a great support act and played some fun covers beforehand.
I do think it was an annoyance though to have throngs of people walking in and out between songs to the bar or arriving late, it took away from the gig somewhat but once everybody started standing up didn’t matter as much.
I’m sure those that were there will agree but Danny Carey is hands down a top 3 drummer of the last 30 years. The mans godly talent and chops is worth the admission alone.
Absolutely stunning visuals and lasers the entire night and the set list was decent, disappointing to not hear Schism, Eulogy, Parabola or Aenima but they played plenty other songs from the back catalogue, most notably from Lateralus.
Sober, The Pot, Pushit and The Grudge were the standouts.
I’ve never taken my phone out at a gig and I don’t really like seeing others do it, but I was at Devin Townsend a few weeks ago and someone put some decent quality videos on youtube and I really enjoyed watching them back
