  1. There is no design. He has a wish sketch that some bootlicker architect drew for him. There is no floor plan or actual feature list for anyone to see because Trump just wanted to tear down an iconic building and piss on the country.

I heard from an architect that it would be the most expensive ballroom built at dollars per square feet. so expensive it’s unbelievable that it would actually cost that much. plus to accommodate 999 people it would have to be about 2-3 times bigger that what the mock up shows. so even though this source is suspect, there’s no way that what he has shown is anywhere close to real.

  6. It’s going to totally overshadow the footprint of the rest of the building , it’s ugly and tacky and it’s much bigger than it needs to be. 90,000 square feet is insanity.

    He did this as a massive fuck you to the American people but what he didn’t count on was his own supporters being upset by the trashing of the WH.

    I used to work in the White House, and in the big sense of the question, Trump is right: the East Wing was a dump (even 15 years ago when I was there), and the East Room is wholly inadequate for many of the social functions the President hosts. Sending guests to an outdoor tent is not a good solution.

    So I have no problem with an East Wing renovation (or demolition, if that made sense), nor the addition of a grand ballroom and support facilities. 

    The problem, obviously, is how little thought and planning has gone into this. The 90,000sqft space is over-kill, and it clearly is designed so that the most prominent feature of the WH will be the Trump Ballroom or whatever they hope it gets called.

    It’s of course just about this guy’s ego.

  19. This is the best representation of trump. Make a grand announcement before there is a plan, tear down and damage the existing infrastructure, then never do anything.

    That was his health care plan too. “End Obama care now, I’ll have something better 2 weeks later”. He did it for Israel and Palestine saying we achieved peace without any plan to make it happen.

    He only cares about the moment. He only cares about the announcement. He doesn’t have any ability to follow through or complete anything. He only cares about the image of himself on the news as a race winner but never even starts the race. Worse, he is too fat to actually attempt the race.

He’s going against the Emoluments Clause (how does the Supreme Court consider this official duties) He’s destroying America for Putin, and is working with Project 2025. This is why they’re letting him steal whatever he wants

    Guess who’s pocketing the other $270 million?

    And for anyone interested in the architectural side of this, Trump is not the first authoritarian to use neoclassical architecture at a grand scale to project power and legitimacy. His executive order during his first term insisting that all new federal buildings be classical is similar to Hitler’s architect, Albert Speer, who used enormous, out-of-scale neoclassical buildings as the visual identity of the Third Reich. He’s sending signals by wrapping himself in this historical trend: he ain’t going nowhere, people. Time to wake the fuck up!

The bonus (as others have pointed out) is that he also gets to piss all over the history of this country!

    The Epstein Ballroom will be famous worldwide!

  34. Beyond stupid headline. Embarrassment? It’s a fucking travesty. He’s destroyed the White House, it will never be the same and it has the stink of his shit all over it.

  35. Designing such a large building takes months, if not years. Not to mention the approval process.

  37. We all have to be worried that trump will be putting in spy tech from russia, Qatar, and Saudi.  

    The next president will have to tear down this unsecured building. 

    This is another reason to impeach trump. 

  38. I’m past the point of being upset at the White House being destroyed… I am starting to feel like we deserve it and we deserve the lasting reminder if we ever manage to get ourselves out of this.

  39. While the East Wing was still there, people could argue for additional oversight, planning, etc. Trump used the shutdown to fuck up the White House so much that “he will have to” build something no matter how poorly planned it is. 

    The poorer the plan, the more opportunity for grift as things have to be reworked, etc. 

    This guy is the dumbest mother fucker on the planet, but he’s *extremely* well-trained on how to back people into a corner such that they’re forced to let him do whatever he wants to do. The Left is doing ourselves no favors by pretending the guy and everyone around him are morons. They’re all stupid, but are exceptional at what they do.
