CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV/Gray News) – The man accused of fatally stabbing a Ukrainian woman on a light rail train in Charlotte, North Carolina, was indicted on federal charges by a grand jury on Wednesday.
Decarlos Brown Jr. is accused of stabbing 23-year-old Iryna Zarutska in August.
Zarutska, who fled the war in Ukraine, was headed home from her job at a pizza restaurant when Brown stabbed her in the neck in an unprovoked attack, according to police.
Brown is charged with one count of violence against railroad carrier and mass transportation systion resulting in death. He also faces a murder charge in North Carolina.
If convicted, Brown could face the death penalty or life in prison.
