With all the talk of the new bus connects routes and ghost buses, I thought I'd give you guys a view from the drivers seat and just how far the near side mirror is.

If you're running to catch a bus, you have to get yourself into that mirror or we will not see you. If it's raining and you're wearing dark clothing that mirror is just hanging out there on a pole, it's covered in water, we are going to struggle but if you're in the mirror and vaguely person shaped well probably hang on.

The majority of bus drivers are miserable arseholes, but if you meet us halfway and make our jobs easier we'll do what our best for you.

  1. Would you be in favour of the newer camera style mirrors that offer a better view?

Either on its own or as an addition to the physical one. Thanks for the insight by the way.

  2. I’ve never held it against bus drivers driving off when I’m sprinting for the stop. They have a job to do and can’t be expected to wait for others.

It’s when I’m running for the stop when the bus is ahead of schedule that pisses me off majorly.

  3. Quick question, once upon a time my man knew a bus driver and he let me sit in the cab with him, I noticed none of the pedals worked because I was pressing them furiously to go faster. Older double Decker bus in mid 90s. Got to “drive” it around Howth. What did those pedals do?

As for miserable drivers, what’s the deal with the guy with studded leather gloves.

  4. I recognise that stop! How do you find that route? Seems busy enough.

  5. Fair play to you, nothing but respect for public transport workers, I know conditions for yourselves are far from perfect and it’s more a structural thing than anything.

  6. Oh man, those mirrors always spook me cos I imagine them smacking someone’s head while turning a corner ☠️

  7. I was running for the bus the other evening and he did see me and stopped and waited!

  8. I just plain and simple don’t run for the dublin bus anymore, there’s always another bus

  9. You can censor your fleet code all you want, I know thats a Go Ahead Ireland SG class

  10. Ye aint seen nahin till youve seen Belfasts Bendy Bus ..

    Stupidly called `The Glider!` ..

  11. No wonder I have to stand in front of the W6 to get it to stop, joking of course, I know that stop and in fairness, I’ve seen drivers being very accommodating with kids running to catch it there. How do you find that terminus during the school’s chaos I don’t envy any of the bus drivers trying to get in and out safely along with the parking and collection of kids on the roundabout itself!!

  12. Well jealous of your soft shell jackets. We got shite ones off Irish Rail in the most recent uniform order

  13. I was at a stop where the bus just passed and was stuck at red light which we knew would stay red for a while. He wouldn’t let us on and signalled to the camera above him pointing at the doors… Is your employer very strict on this?

  14. I’d like to think I’m vaguely person shaped. Given I am out of shape, you had no right to call me out like that 😤

  15. CIE still using wayfarer machines, jesus those things are relics.

  16. It’s amazing that that is all you get as a bus driver. The Luas guys have cameras all over the place and they’re on a rail track

  17. How do you guys get to go to the toilet? I‘be just started the recruitment process with Dublin Bus and this has been a big thing in my head 😂

  18. oh hi W6

Guess that means you probably won’t ever be my driver unless you get a 220 assignment on the incredibly unlikely off-chance I’m taking one to/from the Blanch centre 😅

  19. So do you see me do a little thumbs up/wave getting off at the middle doors in that tiny mirror, or no? Should I go back to shouting CHEERS down the bus?

  20. TBF I say hello to the bus driver and they’re mostly a lovely bunch, some of whom seem happier than me! I don’t know how they do such a stressful job and keep smiling through it.

Keep up the excellent work, OP.

  21. I’ve always wondered what’s up with go ahead having no uniforms?
