China’s commerce ministry vowed to take measures to protect its firms after the EU targeted Chinese entities in its latest sanctions package against Russia, according to a statement on Thursday.

A ministry spokesperson said the EU action “violated the spirit of the consensus reached between Chinese and European leaders and seriously undermined the overall framework of China-EU economic and trade cooperation.”

“China urges the European side to immediately stop listing Chinese firms and not to go further down the wrong path,” the spokesperson said in the statement.
