South Korea and the United States are unlikely to finalize a deal in tariff negotiations during this week’s Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) gathering, a senior presidential official said Monday.

Third Deputy National Security Adviser Oh Hyun-joo made the remarks as President Lee Jae Myung and U.S. President Donald Trump will hold talks Wednesday on the sidelines of the APEC gathering in South Korea’s southeastern city of Gyeongju.

“Looking at the current progress, I think it is a bit difficult to be reached on the occasion,” Oh said in a meeting with foreign media.
