I realize I am privileged to have been able to save for some years and use those funds to buy my first house this year, but tbh the federal debt (along with fear of tariffs increasing inflation over the next few years) was one of many reasons I finally took the plunge into real estate this year. If the only way out of this amount of debt is essentially inflating it away by making today’s dollar worth significantly less, I wanted my mortgage debt to also be significantly easier to pay off in coming years.

5. The government’s deficit is the private sector’s (and foreign governments) surplus. And it’s not most of the citizens that own this surplus. Remember folks, the sum of all deficits and surplus is 0.

16. The fact that he had to give a blunt warning when this was clear as daylight months ago is a testament to how hard of hearing his audience is!

    When **r > g** (i.e. The interest rate on the debt is greater than the growth in GDP) and the debt is greater than 100% of GDP, it’s only a matter of time before the whole goose is so cooked and not even the IMF or World Bank will want to pick at its carcass.

17. I think borrowing insinuates that it will be repaid but you can’t repay future generations if you are dead. So I’d say it’s more like taking or stealing.
