The catwalk event was organised by Bromsgrove and Redditch Welcomes Refugees (BRWR) and will help fund practical and financial assistance for around 200 refugees in the area, many of whom have fled conflict in countries including Ukraine, Afghanistan and Syria.
Held at Bromsgrove Methodist Church Centre, it was attended by 80 people and featured women’s clothing from high street retailers, modelled by nine volunteers—most of whom were Ukrainian refugees.
Yvonne Rendell, chair of BRWR, said: “These are difficult times for those of us who wish to support people coming to the UK to seek sanctuary from often unimaginable experiences of war, persecution and other dangers.
“So we we’re delighted that so many people came along to support the important charitable work that we do. It was heartening to see the welcome, the kindness and the compassion demonstrated by so many.”
The clothing showcased during the event was offered for sale at up to 75 per cent off retail price.
The church hall was provided free of charge, allowing organisers to maximise the funds raised.
BRWR provides a range of support for refugees in both Bromsgrove and Redditch to help them create new lives after fleeing their home countries.
