  1. The Big Issue article on these stats says:

    > What is encouraging, if there is a such thing in such tragic circumstances, is that Wales and Scotland saw a fall in the numbers over the last year. With Scotland seriously addressing the issues by giving the physical and mental health support necessary to reduce chances of death or serious harm.

    > If you look at the decrease in homeless deaths in Scotland it is due to Scotland’s determination to unlock the crisis of homelessness within the person themselves. That is, entering the mental health landscape and utilising resources and support to enable people to come out with a clean bill of health. The Housing First initiative that Scotland has championed, getting people homed and then giving wraparound support, has been one of the keys to successful intervention.

  2. “In Scotland there was an 18% reduction overall from 206 to 168. The Museum of Homelessness found that deaths in both Glasgow and Edinburgh fell by around 40%.”

Fantastic news that the efforts from the local councils are having a significant positive impact. People like to complain about everything being shite and getting poor value for money for our council tax, but it really is making a difference in the lives of the most vulnerable.

And to think, we’ve had factions of the British press, media, and its politicians attacking Scotland’s homeless policies in recent weeks

  4. Scotland giving homeless people a statutory right to accommodation and not leaving people to rot on the streets must have a big impact on these figure.
