AL-HOL, North and East Syria — In accordance with the agreement between the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES) and the Syrian government to facilitate the return of Syrian families residing in Al-Hol Camp, the third group of internally displaced persons (IDPs) has departed for various regions inside Syria.
This group included 55 individuals from 12 families originating from several Syrian cities, including Hmoth (Homs), Druco (Daraa), Dayro Zcuro (Deir ez-Zor), Edleb (Idlib), and Holeb (Aleppo).
Speaking to SyriacPress, Sheikhmous Ahmed, Co-Chair of the Office of Displaced Persons, Refugees, and Disaster Victims under DAARNES’s Social Affairs and Labor Authority, said that since the beginning of 2025, the administration has decided to empty all camps — particularly Al-Hol — of both internally displaced persons and refugees, in coordination with international organizations, chiefly the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
Ahmed noted that DAARNES continues to face numerous challenges and obstacles in the process of clearing the camps. He urged the Syrian government and international bodies to help overcome these difficulties by responding to the appeals of displaced and uprooted people, especially those from Cafrin (Afrin), Rish Ayno (Ras al-Ayn), and Tel Abyad, to ensure their safe and dignified return to their homes and communities.
He concluded by reaffirming that DAARNES remains committed to assisting anyone who wishes to return voluntarily and safely to their place of origin, emphasizing that the administration prioritizes the humanitarian dimension of the issue above all political considerations.
