Fun fact: In Greece the consumption is so high because they use the olive oil as a lube for their Greek practices.
There are two kinds of countries: those that consume a lot of olive oil, and those that have a high GDP.
Surprised to see such a big difference between Greek and Cyprus. Guess all those Russian oligarchs don’t eat much olive oil.
What do those olive oil countries do in a Western European sub?
Any dane can explain to me how they can consum more butter than us ?
Perhaps I should check my family tree for pigs because my olive oil consumption is way harder than my butter consumption
Oil goes in your engine, silly PiGS.
Bahrain can into Europe?!
The funny part is we don’t buy each other’s olive oil. I’ve never seen Spanish olive oil here, and the occasional Italian cans are probably for American expats
U waste money on a house, I invest my money in olive oil 👀
It is a civilisation that is deeply flawed as you cannot bake cardamom buns with olive oil.
…or can you? 🤔
I’m Mediterannean so ofc I use olive oil and not butter
Living right at the border between the two is a boon in itself.
That stuff that you have in Greece is olive oil?
I thought it was for car engines.
Real heads know when to use butter and when to use olive oil.
A random piece of history I hope I remember correctly: the oil/butter divide contributed to the reformation because catholicism prescribed fasting days where butter, among other things, was not allowed to be consumed. That caused trouble in countries where olive oil was not readily available and helped push them towards protestantism.
I’m sorry Albania, I wasn’t familiar with your game.
Note: Albania is a wonderful country with equally lovely people and definitely worth visiting
Italy has truly fallen 😔
I… guess I’m Italian now?
Living 30 minutes from Luigi’s border i am Olive Oil Team 100%
Why not both?
Netherlands Is fifth in a “per capita” chart
What a sad day for Geert
(Although it’s about food, they usually don’t care about it)
I’m surprised France didn’t crack top 5 on both
Southern France should be on our side tho
PIGS vs. Pigs.
> civilized
> albania
Sure
No fucking way we just use 3.7kg. Do you have any idea how much olive oil we use daily?
Taking into account that the majority of our dishes start with adding olive oil into a pan, I’m incredibly surprised that our consumption isn’t higher, especially when we eat so much bacalhau and nothing pairs better with bacalhau than olive oil
There are literally Morocco and Albania in top5, thus we’re partly civilised 😔
Superior people use both 😎
Surprised that Germany isn’t on that list. I couldn’t even imagine living without butter.
France is clearly best at butter consumption/life expectancy ratio
Butter is better.
(Quite surprised *Bahrain* is on the butter list tho, let alone on place 3! 🧐😯)
First time I went to Sweden I went shopping to impress my date with my kitchen skills (it went horribly) and when I asked if there was olive oil at home and got a negative response I couldn’t hold back a gasp of surprise, a Croatian woman approached me and started ranting about how olive oil is not a thing in most Swedish households.
We kept on chit-chatting for a minute or so about how miserable Sweden is because of the lack of olive oil while my date stood there not even trying to justify herself.
You know the Norwegian-American millionaire trying to never age? I kid you not he chugs shots of extra virgin olive oil like his life depends on it.
When he met Magnus Midsomething (the climber turned youtuber) he greeted him with a shot of olive oil (and a cardboard picture of his naked figure).
Here’s a not-so-fun fact from a savage: Türkiye is world’s 3rd biggest olive producer and 4th biggest olive oil exporter. However, despite being the second biggest olive consumers, Turks don’t make top ten in olive oil consumption. This is largely due to American pressure, as part of the conditions forced in attachment to milk powder and other stupid shit delivered through Marshall Plan. Ignorant and spineless “leaders” forced half-plastic margarin instead of butter or olive oil. Propaganda to impede olive oil consumption even included labelling it as carcinogenic.
Luckily, we hung that cunt of a prime minister in ’61
Very surprised to not see the UK on either list.
You cant look at the countries that use olive oil and say with a straight face that’s the “civilized world” lmao
I’m sorry, but I can’t fry my Wiener Schnitzel in olive oil.
