Another reason why member state veto needs to be looked at.
>O God, bless the nation of Hungary
With your grace and bounty
>Pity, O Lord, the Hungarians
Who are tossed by waves of danger
Extend over it your guarding arm
On the sea of its misery
Long torn by ill fate
Bring upon it a time of relief
They who have suffered for all sins
Of the past and of the future!
There is nothing stopping individual EU members cutting down on Russian supplies and stopping transitions likes of Hungary
It is funny how history repeats itself.
100 years ago in 1919, the Russian Soviet Republic and the Hungarian Soviet Republic were allied against Europe. The Russian Red Army tried to make the junction with the Hungarian “Lenin Boys” in order to enslave the newly liberated Poland, Ukraine, Slovakia, Transylvania and Bessarabia (today known as the Republic of Moldova).
Fast-forward 103 years: Putin’s Red Army tries to occupy Ukraine and threatens Poland, Romania, Moldova, the Baltic states, Finland and Sweden, while Orban’s Hungary conspires with the Russians against Ukraine, Slovakia, Romania and even Croatia!
I don’t like Orban at all, but surely some kind of compromise can be made? Hungary would get shafted if Russian oil was instantly banned. Just give them a longer transition period or something.
What exactly is stopping individual countries from banning russian oil?
