Traffic through the Solotvyno-Sighetu Marmatiei border crossing on the Ukrainian-Romanian border has been temporarily restricted. This decision is related to repair work on the bridge over the Tisa River, which connects the two countries. According to information from the State Customs Service of Ukraine, the measures were introduced on the initiative of the Romanian side and will last for several weeks.

How will the restrictions work?

The work on the bridge involves resurfacing the road and strengthening the supporting structures, which makes it impossible for vehicles to travel safely during the repairs. In this regard, traffic on the bridge will be completely suspended at certain times. The restriction is in effect daily from 09:00 to 15:30, when road workers are performing the main work. After this time, traffic will resume.

It is important to note that pedestrians can still cross the border at this point. Citizens can freely cross the bridge on foot, while motorists are advised to plan their route taking into account the established closing hours.

Important for Ukrainians

Those travelling to Romania or returning to Ukraine by private transport are advised to consider alternative routes in advance. For example, you can use the Dyakovo-Halmeu or Porubne-Siret checkpoints, where traffic is unrestricted. You can check the latest information on traffic congestion and waiting times on the websites of the Ukrainian customs and border services.

We also advise you to make sure you have all the necessary documents before travelling. In particular, drivers need to have a valid Green Card, which covers possible damages in the event of an accident abroad. Tourists travelling for a long period of time should purchase medical insurance in advance. This document is required upon entry into the country!
