A man arrested for allegedly holding a poster of suspected Victorian gunman Dezi Freeman at an anti-immigration rally in Adelaide will be issued with a caution by SA Police and will not face any criminal charges.
SA Police previously said they had arrested a 39-year-old man from Golden Grove after he was allegedly seen holding a placard depicting alleged police killer Dezi Freeman at a March for Australia event on August 31.
Lee Roberts was expected to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court today, but police said they would not be pursuing a prosecution and would instead issue an adult caution notice.
About 15,000 people attended the rally and a counter rally in Adelaide’s CBD, which coincided with similar events around the country.
In the days following the march, Mr Roberts attended a police station on Grenfell Street in Adelaide’s CBD and was arrested.
SA Police previously released a statement which said a man had been charged with displaying offensive material in a public place.
Later, police updated its statement and said he had instead been charged with offensive behaviour.
At the time, SA Police Acting Commissioner Linda Williams strongly condemned the placard, describing it as “offensive”, “disgraceful” and “outrageous”.
