So she’s actually saying he shouldn’t consider his position, or what?

Abbott is right. We should also reverse Brexit when Labour win the next election.
She should consider fucking off. She does far more harm than good to the labour party
Oh dear, who put a coin in her?
> Questioned about the prospect of Sir Keir being fined on LBC radio, Ms Abbott said: “I don’t think he will – I think this is a lot of hype built up by the Tory press.
> “But if he were to get a fixed penalty notice, he would have to consider his position,” added the Hackney North and Stoke Newington MP, who served as shadow home secretary under former leader Jeremy Corbyn.
> “I’m a loyal supporter of Keir Starmer, I’m just making the common-sense point that if he gets a fixed penalty notice he should consider his position.”
As usual, reading the article reveals there is no story here.
which would mean Boris would have to resign too no?
I’m a pretty strong supporter of what Starmer is doing for Labour but this is a “live by the sword die by the sword” moment imo. If the police investigation legitimately finds that he broke the rules in a serious manner equivalent in context to Boris Johnson then he absolutely should resign. I think that’s extremely unlikely given what he’s said about the situation and the timing matters a lot but we will see I guess.
Personally my suspicion is that this entire thing is likely being pushed to create the narrative that **A.** *”All politicians are as bad as each other”* which serves the Tories in a wide sense but also creates the idea we should ignore what Johnson did during 2020, **B.** Starmer would be an untrustworthy hypocrite if he was found to do the same as Johnson while calling for his resignation significantly damaging his straightforward honest reputation and **C.** this is a great way to deflect attention away from the fact the Tory party just experienced a significant electoral loss and needs to make a decision about whether to keep Johnson or not. It feels very stage managed to have this investigation now and I’d bet Patel has her hands in it. Finally (**D.**) it may also be being used to create “scandal fatigue” among the public. The Tories want nothing more than for this to be dragged out as long as possible so people lose interest so that they can bury the eventual findings with some other news. After talking to a few people I think it’s working which is concerning.
As for Dianne Abbot she should be keeping very quiet for a while after her comments about Ukraine imo.
The media know exactly what they’re doing here.
Yes, Diane Abbott did say IF fined Starmer should consider his position (correctly) BUT, that she doesn’t think he should be and she backs him all the way.
Outlets know most people don’t read an article, hence the inflammatory headline.
And lots of people in this thread clearly falling for it. Obviously don’t go any further than the headlines.
How she ever got elected is beyond me.
She isn’t wrong. You can’t slag someone like fuck for their behaviour if you get fined for the same thing and refuse to do anything but apologize.

I wish labour would stop attacking labour.
