  1. I dont know where they got this data from because nobody asked me or anyone i know. Its likely that many Russians voted, right?

Looks like a high school research project that I forgot to do and filled it w bullshit random numbers the day of

  3. When for years and years you constantly give mitigating factors for the turkish invasion and atrocities by constantly blaming only one side, this is what happens. Maybe we do not deserve freedom after all

  4. This is a result of brainwashing Cypriots for decades that it is our (GC) fault that Turkey has invaded Cyprus by blaming the coupists, EOKA B, Grivas, Makarios, that we were friendly with the USSR so we deserved it, etc.

The question is if Russia is “first and foremost” responsible. And the answer to that should be “totally agree”.

At the same time we should recognize NATO’s responsibility which expanded to the borders of Russia and kept arming Ukraine, and the fact that Ukrainians do have Nazi groups, and there was a conflict with the Russian population of the country which resulted in the deaths of many. These facts however do not excuse the Russian invasion/occupation.

Similarly, we should blame the coupists for the coup, Grivas & EOKA B for their terrorist actions, Makarios for his mistakes, but none of those things can give any excuse to Turkey’s invasion and occupation.

Both Cyprus and Ukraine need to compromise. E.g. agree to remain neutral, understanding the security concerns of Russia / Turkey, and also offering certain powers and privileges to the Russian/Turkish minorities. But there is a limit to those compromises. Neither Ukraine nor Cyprus can compromise to the point where there is no real democracy and they essentially become protectorates of Russia / Turkey.

  5. Seems like utter rubbish and strange if factual. Although there’s a hell of a lot of Russians living in Cyprus so that could be why!

I’d find it very hard to believe that Greek Cypriots are pro Russian invasion given obvious historical occurrences that have occurred on their own island…

  6. Im a cypriot with no links to Russia. I also disagree that the Ukraine war is primarily Russias fault. I would blame the US and Nato at least equally if not more.

Ukraine used to be in the USSR and has a sizable russian population. Russias main source of income comes from selling fuel to Europe. After the revolution of dignity which was supported by the west, the US Vice presidents son, Hunter Biden, is placed on Burismas board of director. Burisma is the biggest oil and gas company in Ukraine. Burisma then starts contracting US oil companies to extract and sell oil. Now this is a major existential threat for Russia, and the US is doing it knowingly. After four years of Trump where relations normalised a bit, Biden is elected president. He renews the push for the US to take control of the oil fields in Ukraine while now also pushing for the Ukraine to join Nato. The US and Nato did this fully aware it would provoke war. If they didnt they are impossibly stupid. You try and take away russias main source of revenue while also trying to put its bordering countries in a military alliance whose sole purpose is to oppose Russia. In the mean time, the US is doing little to assist while asking all other countries to ‘donate’ the oldest weaponst so that the US can sell them back new, more expensive ones.

Guys, this was all engineered by the US. When a similar thing happened with the USSR trying to form an alliance in Cuba, the US invaded and when they failed that, they embargoed Cuba. That was considered justified by the international community. In the mean time, Germany still refuses to stop buying Russian gas while Cyprus is suffering from the loss of business from Russian companies and turism. We should have vetoed the sanctions until it included energy as well.

What is happening is definitely sad and should not be supported. But we cant expect Russia to just roll over and die against the western aggression. The international community should push back both against the war As Well As the US aggression against Russia. When you force a country to chose between the survival of its own people vs a war they can win, its easy to see what theyll chose. And belive me, losing 70% of your revenue is an existential issue.

Those are my thoughts, happy to debate.
