I left Ireland the best part of ten years ago and it was expensive when I left but it seems to have gone completely mad. The house rental prices/sale prices now are so far beyond what I could afford if I ever wanted to move home. I left because I could see how my life there would have just been struggling to get by or working like a dog, along with a few other factors.

I tried to find a decent looking house in Dublin and a ‘fancy’ house in a more affluent area to use and to show you how far that money would go here in Thailand.

I can’t see myself ever coming home but even if I wanted to there’s no way I could find a decent place to live without it being a massive burden to pay the bills. I honestly have no idea how Ireland can survive with the prices people are being charged.

The Irish Times property pages used to do these snippets of what you could get for X amount around the world so I thought I’d see what the equivalent prices would get you here and share it with you.

Here’s the links to the properties I used.

  1. Phuket doesn’t make sense as a comparison though. How does the salary compare?

They’re not like for like comparisons. There are lots of places that are cheaper than Ireland and lots that are more expensive.

  2. What’s the average wage in Phuket?

What’s the main industry in Phuket?

    >no way I could find a decent place to live without it being a massive burden to pay the bills

That really depends on what work as and what you earn.

  3. Next up: a comparison between the number of native speakers of Mandarin Chinese vs Irish. Spoiler – you will be shocked.
