WANA (Oct 28) – The Iranian women’s national youth handball team made history by securing Iran’s first-ever gold medal in handball at the Asian Games, achieving the title even before the competition concluded. This marks the first gold in the sport’s history for Iran — at any level, youth or senior.

In the Asian Youth Games held in Bahrain, Iran’s young women defeated China, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Thailand before clinching their fifth consecutive victory, overpowering India 43–26 to seal the championship.

Led by a new generation of talented players born in the 2000s, the Iranian team not only overcame traditional Asian powerhouses like China and Kazakhstan but also showcased a new level of confidence and maturity in women’s handball.

Following their victory, the players celebrated emotionally — performing a military salute and a prostration of gratitude, a moment that quickly went viral on social media. The scene became a symbol of a new generation of Iranian women who, through determination and belief, are breaking through historical barriers in the world of sports.

Following the historic victory of Iran’s women’s national handball team at the Asian Youth Games in Bahrain, the Foreign Minister extended his congratulations to the Iranian nation.

He described the achievement as the result of “the effort, perseverance, and admirable determination of the young women of this land,” emphasizing that the team’s success symbolizes the strength and capability of Iranian women. The Minister expressed hope that this remarkable triumph would mark the beginning of continued excellence for Iranian female athletes on the international stage and the constant elevation of the nation’s proud flag.
