Slovenia blackmails and “MIGHT” blackmail is very different.
It has always amazed me how Slovenian politicians managed to ruin the relations between Slovenia and Croatia.
We are two extremely similar countries. Hundreds of thousands of Croatians visit Slovenian ski resorts every year, even more Slovenians visit Croatian seaside. Unlike with Serbs when it can get tricky, there are no problems between the people. There are many fans of Croatian football clubs Dinamo and Hajduk in Slovenia, and everybody here is a fan of Luka Doncic.
Even in politics, we stuck together in Yugoslavia, frontrunning for decentralisation, market economy, democracy… damn, we proclaimed independence from Yugoslavia on the same day, Croatian people blocked Yugoslav tanks and army when they wanted to invade them, there were Slovenian volunteers in Croatian Army when Croatia was attacked. Then Slovenia joined the EU before us and shit just hit the fan: Ljubljanska bank, territorial claims, sea claims, blocking our accession, insisting on arbitration that would exclude the application of international law, then influencing the tribunal… such a ridiculous mess just because they wanted a bit more sea that everybody – including themsleves – knows it can’t be legally theirs.
And here we are now, two countries that kept together during the worst times, now one is the biggest diplomatic enemy of another. Ridiculous.
I thought Croatia must enter EU’s Schengen Area as it’s a former EU member.
Balkan countries try to get along for one second challenge: Impossible
Do you have an upcoming election in Croatia or something or why has this non-news already been posted several times today across some random media and reddit?
this whole debacle is just like two siblings arguing lol. Hopefully they can learn to share and stop excluding one another
Big oof 😬 I feel ashamed. Although things might change with the next government, and also when it comes to people we have no problem with our neighbors, that’s for sure 🇸🇮🇪🇺🇭🇷
