Morocco is steadily strengthening its position in the German avocado market, significantly increasing export volumes, according to EastFruit.

Between November 2024 and August 2025, Moroccan exporters shipped 19,600 metric tons of avocados to Germany, valued at nearly USD 80 million. This figure is double that of the previous season and six times higher than in 2021/22, marking a new seasonal export record for Morocco.

Avocados are among Morocco’s top fruit exports, second only to mandarins in volume. Germany has consistently ranked among the top five importers of Moroccan fruit, accounting for over 13% of the country’s avocado exports during the first ten months of the 2024/25 season.

Demand for avocados in Germany continues to rise, reflected in growing import volumes and a widening pool of suppliers. While Germany imported avocados from 26 countries in the previous two seasons, that number has expanded to 30 this season. Notably, 12 of these countries each supplied over 1,000 tons.

Peru remains Germany’s leading avocado supplier, dominating the market from May through October, with South Africa providing strong competition during that period. Chilean avocados take the lead from November to December, while imports from Israel, Colombia, and Morocco primarily meet demand from January to March.

Morocco’s rising export volumes are propelling the country into the ranks of Germany’s top avocado suppliers. A record-breaking season in 2022/23 elevated Morocco to fifth place among importers. Although exports dipped in 2023/24, pushing the country down to eighth, a twofold increase this season has already lifted Morocco to third place. With the season still underway, Morocco is well-positioned to retain this ranking.

In addition to its success in Germany, Moroccan exporters have also achieved record avocado shipments to Switzerland and Canada.
