1. It is understood the payment was an operational decision made by the removal team as an alternative to a slower and more expensive process.
   It is understood he was not on the government’s Facilitated Returns Scheme – for foreign national offenders who agree to leave the UK voluntarily – under which he would have been given £1,500.
   Sources said the £500 payment avoided “a slower and more expensive process, which would have included detention, a new flight and potentially fighting subsequent legal claims”.

2. Given it costs ~£1,000 a week to keep someone in prison, and £10,000s to prosecute and defend an immigration tribunal, £500 seems like a bargain and good riddance.

3. All of this money going on migrants. All the while Labour will be putting up taxes for British citizens.

   Worth noting he didn’t serve his full sentence either, which would have cost the country more than offering him deportation and a permanent ban.
