I guess if it’s really going wrong, it’s better for the. If Labour are in charge through the worst of it.
Kind of a win win position for him/his wing in the party.
Win the election – “will of the people for Bojo to keep power, vindication”. Can also eliminate MPs which are a threat/those not pulling the rope like 2019 during the election cycle.
Lose – Labour gets a completely fubar situation in the economy/society to fix and the tory party can happily sit in opposition slinging cats and mud all day without actually having to do anything while gaslighting the country into thinking “labours fault/mess” for a major victory in the next election(s).

All we can hope is for Labour, if they do win, to be very radical and to support serious reform to elections finally.
Yeah,.. this wouldn’t work out for him. People don’t actually like election time and will hold it against him if they think he is playing games/doing it unnecessarily. Remember Brenda from Bristol?
2015, 2016 (referendum), 2017, 2019, covid pandemic, 2022 – far too much, suspect the average member of the public is sick of seeing politicians’ faces
God I cannot be arsed
Was the last election really just 2 years ago?
The whole reason we introduced the fixed term parliament act was to avoid shenanigans like this.
Fact is, smaller parties would really struggle to fund a campaign so soon in the election cycle.
It’s yet another way to fix the vote for the party who’s donors effectively have bottomless pockets.
If they are really cynical, the Tories will hold another winter election.
This really disadvantages smaller parties who have to rely on unpaid volunteers to deliver their campaign in poor weather and short daylight hours.
The Tories often just pay Royal Mail to distribute all their election materials.
Theory – The internal Tory data coming in on today’s local elections has been dreadful and Boris suspects an imminent challenge to his leadership is coming. By leaking this story Boris is saying “Bring it on, I will call an election before I go willingly and a lot of you will lose your seats”.
Alternative theory – the data coming in is better than expected and the PM is feeling confident…
Just coming out of COVID and mini-Churchill to Ukraine; is that enough to drown out the lawbreaking, corruption, inflation, NI border “problems”, and everything else I am forgetting just now?
Labour is still weak after Corbyn and given FPTP there’s little point in discussing any other party, can Labour topple the mighty figure of Alex “The Profligate Member” Johnson. At the moment I don’t the UK media behind them, so maybe this is best time for the Tories.
Long term might not be a bad idea for the Tories. Dump Boris with all the shit he’s done. Labour get a really shit hand can’t do much traditional labour shit due to the shit hand everyone blames labour cos they haven’t fixed things straight away. Labour lose the next election and the Tories can beat them with the “last labour government fucked the economy again”
Kinda tinfoil hat territory but if the last 8 years have thought me anything sometimes crazy shit happens.
If he stays in power we might not see 2022 the economy is going to tank and the Yanks will buy the whole Country from bargain bucket.
Feels like snap elections have become the norm these days
Imagine having a stable, competent government. Wouldn’t that be lovely?
Rubbish. Won’t happen.
When in doubt, bail.
I think he’ll lose either way. People are fed up of his hypocrisy and lies – not to mention the state of the country.
I think the Tory MPs should declare a motion of no confidence against Boris and call a new leadership election.
Iv never been Tory but I never no belief in starmer..
Always voyed labour but I won’t vote for him…
Perhaps he should. Things won’t get better but may do so some years later after a trough. It would be very strategic. Are they still strong and stable at the national polls?
I think considering the results that are in so far from yesterday that would be a very poor choice
Absolute BS.
Boris will hold next election in 2024 and win a stonking majority <3
I don’t understand the logic of this. The solution to a stagnant economy is the snap election. I thought, the solution to that is to create an appropriate economic policy. Call all the experts and propose one. A snap election will not suddenly bring a well defined economic policy. Why doesn’t he do that instead?
Instead of election how about revolution.
How on earth a government hold an election whenever it feels like. This is a disgusting abuse of power and undermines democracy.
Any govenment can simply hold elections when it thinks it will win…
If only we could replace Starmer beforehand
can’t change leader during “wartime”
but the dog can call a GE, hmmm
But he isn’t thinking about that today.
It won’t get any better economically with Boris Johnson as Prime Minister. Time to resign.
