  1. The lawlessness of Rio’s police forces has been a problem for decades, and has resisted considerable efforts at reform. Like in the US, police in Brazil tend to skew conservative, and Bolsanaro had disproportionate support among them. So it’s not surprising that this happened without involvement or approval from Lula.

    What were they raiding with, predator missiles?

  3. This was a raid against the infamous ‘Comando Vermelho’ gang, a especially dangerous and violent group with thousands of members, and influence both locally and internationally. For instance, they have started having operations in Portugal, across the Atlantic.

    This has become an increasingly big problem for locals over the years.

    Look it up before jumping to conclusions about this and that.

    Some key facts showing up in my country’s news that kinda help understing the number I guess:

    – This was against one of the most powerful criminal organizations in Latinamerica

    – It seems like the criminals used “from drones to buses” to attack the police. There was also fires.

    – Neighbors are denouncing executions (this is truly fucking bad). Shots to the back or to the back of the head.

    This looks truly, incredibly bad.

  5. I saw clips of a few fires in a residential neighborhood in Rio yesterday (which is never good to begin with) but holy fucking shit that is a HUGE death count. That doesn’t seem like a raid but a literal battle.
