Stuff like that always reminds me of my older brother; when he was a Junior in high school, I am a decade younger, we moved from this tiny rural crap school to a much larger town and a much better school. He was top of his class in the small rural school, but was way behind once we got to the new school.
I was young enough that it didn’t really impact me much, and I had far more time to grow.
Stupid and ghoulish is apparently the way to go through life and then land a cushy government appointment.
