An erroneous alert was released, citing the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ), regarding a 5.5 magnitude earthquake that supposedly struck Iceland on Wednesday. This alert was issued in error and has been promptly withdrawn.

The actual earthquake had taken place seven hours prior to the initial alert’s issuance. The center clarified the situation by retracting the notice.

No subsequent alerts or replacement notifications will be disseminated following the withdrawal of the erroneous alert.
