Tata Motors, India’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturer, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with THINK Gas, a key player in India’s City Gas Distribution sector, to accelerate the development of the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) refuelling network for long-haul and heavy-duty trucks. This alliance seeks to enhance India’s LNG infrastructure, ensure fuel quality and reliability, and encourage the adoption of LNG-powered commercial vehicles—driving the transition towards cleaner, low-emission logistics and transportation.
Under this partnership, Tata Motors and THINK Gas will work together to map major freight routes and logistics clusters for the deployment of LNG stations. THINK Gas will maintain strict standards for fuel quality and uninterrupted supply to support optimal truck performance. Tata Motors customers will also gain access to exclusive benefits, including preferential pricing on LNG fuel.
Commenting on the collaboration, Rajesh Kaul, Vice President & Business Head – Trucks, Tata Motors, said “As India moves towards sustainable and efficient freight solutions, LNG stands out as a strong alternative for long-distance and heavy-duty transportation. We have long recognised its promise and developed advanced products offering superior mileage, lower emissions, and reliable performance. Through this partnership with THINK Gas, we aim to expand the LNG ecosystem and provide fleet operators with easy access to refuelling facilities, enabling them to confidently transition to this cleaner technology. This initiative reinforces our commitment to creating greener and future-ready mobility solutions for India’s commercial vehicle segment.”
Representing THINK Gas, Somil Garg, Senior Vice President and Business Head – LNG Fuel, added “THINK Gas is dedicated to making cleaner fuels both available and affordable across the country. Collaborating with Tata Motors, a pioneer in alternate-fuel mobility, allows us to strategically accelerate our expansion. Backed by our global investors — I-Squared Capital, Osaka Gas, Sumitomo Corporation, Konoike Transport, and JOIN — we remain focused on building a strong, safe, and sustainable LNG refuelling network nationwide.”
Tata Motors continues to lead in alternative fuel technologies, offering a diverse range of commercial vehicles powered by battery-electric, CNG, LNG, hydrogen internal combustion, and hydrogen fuel cell systems. Its product lineup spans multiple segments — from small commercial vehicles and trucks to buses and vans — catering to India’s evolving mobility needs.
THINK Gas currently operates 18 LCNG (Liquefied and Compressed Natural Gas) stations, with several more under construction. Its planned LCNG corridor will connect major industrial hubs, agricultural zones, and logistics centres, ensuring smooth LNG refuelling access for vehicles involved in manufacturing, warehousing, exports, and agricultural supply chains.
