SS: This week Russia announced the successful tests of two new experimental systems, the Burevestnik cruise missile and Poseidon torpedo, both weapons armed with nuclear warheads and powered by nuclear reactors.
This article alleges that both weapon systems, while unique, will not fundamentally alter the strategic balance between Russia and the US. Instead it argues that they are being used as part of a broader strategy by the Kremlin to coerce the US into avoiding hostile actions, such as providing Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, and to convince it to re-engage in arms control agreements that are more advantageous to Russia.
