English translation – The Swiss People's Party (SVP) is facing criticism for an AI-generated image on Instagram showing an EU official. The Foundation Against Racism and Antisemitism has described the image as problematic.

The Swiss People's Party (SVP) is vehemently opposing the new EU deal, including on social media: On Instagram, the party, in collaboration with ChatGPT, posted an image showing an EU official mocking Switzerland with a derisive laugh and pockets full of money, as reported by the " Tages-Anzeiger ." The party has faced criticism in the comments, with accusations of antisemitism.

The image is "problematic" but not criminally relevant, according to the Foundation Against Racism and Antisemitism. The AI drawing contains "stylistic elements that frequently appear in antisemitic depictions of Jewish men," said Managing Director Philip Bessermann to the newspaper. These include, for example, a large nose, bared teeth, and a portrayal of greed. However, because there are no indications of antisemitic messages in the text, the party is likely to escape prosecution. Nevertheless, Bessermann says the post is problematic.

"There can be no other interpretation."

SVP Secretary General Henrique Schneider says the graphic illustrates "how expensive the ridiculous EU bureaucracy" is. "There can be no other interpretation," Schneider told the "Tages-Anzeiger".

The use of AI in politics is a recurring topic of debate. Before the 2023 elections, the major parties in Switzerland intended to sign a code against AI manipulation. However, in the end, only the center-left parties participated. The FDP and SVP did not sign the agreement, which stipulated the disclosure of AI use and a complete ban on its use in negative campaigns.

  1. I can totally see how expensive the EU-Deal is by the length of the guys nose. Everyone knows, the longer someone’s nose, the more money they get.

Jokes aside, you have to specifically ask the AI image generators to create a dude with a long nose. I can’t think of any EU representative with a comically long nose that’s relevant in the context of the EU deal, and a Pinocchio nose looks very different, especially if you ask AI to generate a guy with a Pinocchio nose.

What the SVP guy said is entirely true, there is no other realistic interpretation of the image, his is just not the one you think of when you see the picture.

I’m not surprised SVP is using coded language and images, they need the headlines and gullible people will always say “it’s not what it looks like”.

  2. “Eine andere Interpretation kann es gar nicht geben”. It’s so obvious, and instead of owning it, they lie. Why am I not surprised?

  3. This is not the first time. They have ridiculed the memory of holocaust before –

  4. And with the yellow filter even. It is so fun that they haven’t either fixed it or that the people who use it didn’t get that they have to do a tiny bit of colouring work.

  5. I keep wondering what the SVP politicians offer as a solution to break the deals with the EU. What exactly does Switzerland has to bargain here? Wouldn’t the Swiss economy just die?

  6. When people were calling for the killinh of all the jews and were spitting in jews faces about, idk like 1 month ago, no one cared about antisemitism

And now the people are down here trying to figure out if SVP explicitely asked for the big nose to make this dude look jewish

Remind me again, who was the party calling for an end of the open antisemitic demos and who was the party calling up for those demonstration?
