President Donald Trump must be glowing with excitement right about now … because he just announced he has authorized the testing of nuclear weapons.
Trump revealed the vague plan by posting on Truth Social Wednesday night, hours before his meeting with Chinese president Xi Jinping in South Korea Thursday, claiming he’d authorized the testing to begin “immediately.”
47 reasoned since other countries are testing their nukes, the USA should be able to as well. He offered no further details.
Trump pointed out the U.S. has the most nukes in the world, with Russia coming in second place and China third … though he predicted China would catch up within five years.
POTUS spoke to reporters after his meeting with Jinping, where he doubled down on his rationale for testing nukes — in defiance of the international Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty — declaring it’s the “appropriate” thing to do, according to NBC News.
The last time the United States tested a nuclear weapon was in 1992, when George H.W. Bush was president. China last tested a nuke in 1996, and Russia’s last official nuclear weapon test was in 1990, according to the Washington Post … though Russia tested a new nuclear-powered and warhead-capable torpedo as recently as this week, Reuters and The Guardian report.
