Serbia to Resume Kosovo Derecognition Campaign, Minister Says

  1. I find it kinda weird how a country basically can say “We used to recognize you, but now we don’t know who you are.”

  2. Fun Fact:

serb politicans keep talking about Kosovos application for the CoE is breaking the washington agreement. But actually, the washington agreement mentions a 1 year period, in which Kosovo is not allowed to apply for joining int. Organizations.

Its been 2 years since than… as such, Kosovo does not break the washington agreement and is allowed to apply for whatever organization it wantd.

  3. So stupid, we should just let Kosovo (and B&H) into NATO. It’s clear Kosovo isn’t going to work as apart of Serbia, Serbia already tried ethnic cleansing once and it didn’t work – why would anyone let them do it again? Serbia needs to just drop it, Vucic was at my countries capital not but a year and a half ago meeting with Hoti and agreed to normalize relations and now they just decide to walk back again?

  4. To all who still wonder why Serbia acts the way it does, let me give you some insight and then you can judge who is in the right. First of all, it’s not unprecedented nor is it spiteful act from the Serbian side, it’s more of a reaction. Before that, you must understand one thing… Kosovo separated itself against any and all values and imperatives of the International Law, breaking the [UN Resolution 1244.](https://unmik.unmissions.org/united-nations-resolution-1244) It was done without referendums or votes, without negotiations and against all International customs that apply in cases of unification and separation, mainly the decision of public debt, funding, infrastructure etc. Kosovo never offered such, they simply stood up and said ‘We are now a separate country and you must accept us’. Which… just doesn’t happen.

This situation lasts for a decade now. Kosovo demands that Serbia recognizes and surrenders any and all infrastructure that exists in Kosovo (even though Kosovo de facto holds them all by now). Their phrasing is ‘mutual recognition’, which really makes no sense since Serbia is already recognized by the international community. Kosovo requires recognition however. In order to stabilize situation and relations, there have been two major agreements between institutions of Kosovo and Serbia. These are the [Brussels Agreement](https://www.srbija.gov.rs/cinjenice/en/120394) and the [Washington Agreement](https://www.asil.org/insights/volume/25/issue/4/washington-agreement-between-kosovo-and-serbia), which Hashim Taci signed, while he was still a legitimate president. After his removal, new government of Kosovo suddenly decided “Hey, we kinda don’t like any of that so we won’t abide by those two, legaly-binding, agreements but Serbia should fulfill their end of the deal!” Their biggest thorn is the first point of Brussels agreement, which states

“1. There will be an Association/Community of Serb majority municipalities in Kosovo. Membership will be open to any other municipality provided the members are in agreement.

They don’t like this and state that this is against their Constitution, which was eddited AFTER signing the agreement so it suddenly clashes. Next came the Washington Agreement and in it, one of the points was that Kosovo WILL NOT seek membership in any international organizations. Again, this is legaly binding, signed with supervision of the USA. Since then, Kosovo behaved like a spoiled child, cherrypicking which parts they will honor, which parts they won’t, and constantly claiming that Serbia is the one who is slowing down process of negotiations. When Serbia points out the parts of the deal they must fulfill, they just scoff and refuse to speak further.

The other, major part, of it all is the topic of ‘missing individuals’ which do exist on both sides, however Kosovo refuses to process individuals responsible for human trafficking, organ trafficking and numerous missing persons. All of which, UN knew about and reported, but never really talked about.

So… in conclusion… let this be clear. Serbia KNOWS that eventually, Kosovo will have to be recognized so that all sides progress to EU. At the moment, this is political blackmail from both sides in order to gain as much as possible. EU and USA have not reacted to Kosovo’s refusal to obey the legal document they signed, so it created the impression that they are not a reliable guarantee for any further negotiations.

  5. I see the serbia warcrimes deniers are already at work here.

*Now please explain to me how it actually never happened, but they deserved it, but also others did worse so it’s fine, but really it’s just western/american/european/bosnian/albanian/kosovar propaganda.*
