Nepotism is best when people are in denial of their own nepotism
Nepotism opens the door
Let’s not pretend like he didn’t get Superbad in part because James Franco worked with Seth Rogen and Apatow. It opened doors for sure. No point in denying it other than ego.
Oh give me a fucking break. The issue isn’t that you can’t do the job, it’s that otherwise deserving people aren’t even given the opportunity to attempt to do so while you were just handed it on a silver platter.
“Hey, I mean…He took the acting classes and the poverty and the auditions and the interviews and the exploitation and the paying our parents mortgage. But **I didn’t sext any teenage girls as an adult man..**”
Valid.
Probably just trying to distance himself from his rapist brother, understandable really
The more you suck, the less visible you become.
If that were true we wouldn’t still have a Baldwin problem.
See this is why I like Jack Quaid. He acknowledges he has been lucky and privileged. But then he’s also actually a fucking good actor
I like him, but bro. He is the exact same in every single movie.
He would not have gotten his career without nepotism
The whole point is that it opens the door. There are so many talented hard working actors and the only difference is that no one knows them and they have no way of getting mg a foot in the door.
It’s so annoying that so many nepo’s like to say “it just opened the door for me I had to work hard.” And so does everyone. Everyone has to work hard
Yeah c’mon guys, it’s not because he’s James Franco’s brother… it’s because he’s Alison Brie’s husband.
What is wrong with saying you got a job because of your brother? My brother is a successful director and would hire me, I certainly wouldn’t have my experience without those first projects
Ill take a Dave over a James
Forest for the trees kinda shit.
Yeah he’s had to work to be semi successful, but he has also been completely ingrained in the machine through name, status and connections.
He’s acting like he started as some no-name from a podunk town, who made their own way. 👀
but here’s the thing….he does suck lol and yet he hasn’t disappeared, so theres that.
Whatever helps him sleep at night
You get to be mediocre. Everyone else without connections needs to be exceptional. Must be nice.
Getting your foot in the door is the biggest hurdle in a successful position, no matter what it is. Out of the millions of people who COULD do what he does, what are the odds he was just the best one? Astronomical is the answer. Just be an adult and admit your connections got you there and your talent kept you there. people will respect the honesty.
He was amazing in The Studio
This article is how I learn they have another brother
Nepotism is almost never recognized by people that it benefits.
I think he’s awesome on his own and extremely charismatic but… come on. You need to know people to get into the industry, that’s fine
Well his brother sucks and disappeared so points were made
It certainly opened that door, but he absolutely had the chops to stay in. Especially with the issues with James, he rose above and didn’t let it tarnish his career.
I don’t know if I’d say Dave is a *better* actor than James, but he definitely deserves his spot.
His brother definitely opened some doors, but they’d have slammed shut if he wasn’t a decent actor.
And marrying Alison brie helps your avg ass stay relevant
I mean he defo got famous because of his brother, but I actually like him more.
Without your brother, you wouldn’t have appeared. That’s the point.
I enjoyed The Disaster Artist but he sucked in it.
At this point does being related to James Franco help him?
Name recognition sells tickets. At the very least your brother’s fame got you a foot in the door, an audition here and there. Being a decent actor might have carried him the rest of the way but tons of decent actors never get their foot in the door because they don’t have the leg up that he did. It’s silly to pretend that nepotism isn’t a prevalent factor in many Hollywood success stories.
Thats just not true.
This is like saying, “If I committed a crime, i would be in jail!”.
These people fail to recognize, or worse, choose not to be honest in that doors were left open for them to walk through, and for all of the others those doors either never appeared or were closed.
Yeah I agree and Dave can act no doubt. But without his brother being a star would he have gotten a chance?
He’s half right, he’s not saying that his brother didn’t open doors for him, he’s saying that, after James’ fall from grace, that if he didn’t have talent he wouldn’t still have success , and conveniently ignoring the part that having Alison Brie for a wife and her willingness to be in projects with him has had in that success
This would typically be annoying but I give Franco a bit of a pass, for one reason:
I too would not want to be affiliated with my brother if multiple women accused him of sexual misconduct and he sent creepy messages to teen GIRLS.
Agree’d, however, would he have even got the chance to start without his brother?
Ugh, both of them suck.
What an ungrateful insecure pussy. You are famous because of your brother *and* the privilege your parents provided you with. There, fixed it 😊
People who got lucky in life sure hate acknowledging it
I don’t know why they don’t get it. You stayed because of your talent. You got there because of your connections.
