WANA (Oct 31) – Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has condemned U.S. President Donald Trump’s order to resume nuclear weapons testing after decades of suspension, calling it a “regressive and irresponsible act” that poses a serious threat to international peace and security.

In a post on X late Thursday, Araghchi wrote: “By renaming its ‘Department of Defense’ to the ‘Department of War,’ the nuclear-armed bully is resuming its nuclear weapons testing. The same bully portrays Iran’s peaceful nuclear program as dangerous and threatens to carry out more attacks against our safeguarded nuclear facilities — all in blatant violation of international law.”

He added: “There is no doubt: the United States of America is the most dangerous source of nuclear proliferation in the world. Announcing the resumption of nuclear tests is a regressive and irresponsible move and a serious threat to global peace and security.”

Araghchi concluded by saying the world must “speak with one voice” and hold the United States accountable for “normalizing the spread of such evil weapons.”

Trump’s announcement on Wednesday night, in which he called for the resumption of U.S. nuclear testing, has added a new layer of complexity to the ongoing nuclear rivalry among major powers.

According to The New York Times, the decision is likely to intensify nuclear competition between the United States, China, and Russia, and further undermine long-standing international efforts that had effectively halted explosive nuclear testing by nearly all nations for decades.
