TÜRKİYE – Türkiye’s leading food processing technology provider, Alapala, has successfully completed the installation of Şanlıurfa’s first semolina factory, a landmark project that blends ancient agricultural heritage with modern industrial innovation.
The facility, developed under the investment of Yiğit Group, boasts a 150 tons per day (TPD) semolina capacity and an integrated 500 TPD flour mill, creating a fully equipped production complex that underscores Şanlıurfa’s deep-rooted connection to wheat cultivation.
With over 70 years of expertise and more than 1,000 completed projects across 120 countries, Alapala stands among the world’s leading providers of turnkey milling solutions for flour, feed, and maize industries.
The company continues to set benchmarks in the global food processing sector through its technological innovation, engineering excellence, and commitment to sustainable production.
The new project, delivered on a turnkey basis stands out for its advanced technological sophistication and modern design.
It is supported by fully automated PLC and SCADA-controlled systems that ensure precision, efficiency, and consistent product quality throughout the process.
The plant is designed to process locally cultivated wheat varieties such as Zivago, Dariel, Burgaz, and Ovidio, producing high-protein and naturally sustainable products that reflect the agricultural richness of the region.
Constructed to meet European standards in hygiene, energy efficiency, and product quality, the complex represents a major step forward in Şanlıurfa’s industrial development, reinforcing its role as a key hub for modern grain processing in Türkiye.
Mr. Ömer Yiğit, Chairman of Yiğit Group, highlighted the project’s broader economic and cultural impact:
“We are proud to have established the first flour and semolina factory in Şanlıurfa, the birthplace of 338 wheat varieties. This project, carried out in cooperation with Alapala, will transform the efforts of our farmers into high value-added products, making a significant contribution to both the regional economy and Türkiye’s exports, “he said.
Mr. Görkem Alapala, CEO of Alapala Holding A.Ş., noted the project’s symbolic importance for the region and the country:
“This project is a historic milestone that unites Şanlıurfa’s agricultural heritage with modern industry. As Alapala, we are proud to have built the region’s semolina and flour production facilities and to carry the abundance of Anatolia from its ancient lands to dining tables around the world, “he noted.
Starting June 2024, Yiğit Group will begin production of pasta, flour, semolina, and noodles under its Perilla, Ovella, and Makaliya brands, with an average protein content of 14%.
A substantial share of the output will be exported to Africa, the Middle East, and Europe, generating an estimated US$65 million annually for Türkiye’s economy.
