A FASHION show on October 18 raised nearly £950 to help out Redditch and Bromsgrove refugees ‘in style’, writes Taneesha Arora.
The catwalk fundraiser was organised by Bromsgrove and Redditch Welcomes Refugees (BRWR), a charity which provides practical and financial aid as well as friendship to around 200 refugees, predominantly from Ukraine, Afghanistan and Syria.
The event took place at Bromsgrove Methodist Church Centre, with the hall provided free of charge.
A total of 80 people attended the show where women’s outfits from high street retailers were showcased by nine volunteer models – most were refugees from Ukraine.
Afterwards, the clothes were sold at discounts of up to 75 per cent.
Organisers of the fashion show were delighted that so many from the local community came along to support the charity fundraiser.
BRWR chair, Yvonne Rendell, said: “These are difficult times for those of us who wish to support people coming to the UK to seek sanctuary from often unimaginable experiences of war, persecution and other dangers.
“It was heartening to see the welcome, the kindness and the compassion demonstrated by so many.”
BRWR provides a range of support for refugees in both Bromsgrove and Redditch to help them create new lives after fleeing their home countries.
The charity always welcomes new volunteers and funding.
