  2. There’s one specific demographic of Americans who NEVER fail in rising to the occasion when it comes to defending child marriages in the U.S.

    Funnily enough, it’s the same demographic that never shuts the f*ck up about “pRoTeCtInG ThE kIdS” while actively and constantly protecting those who harm them the most.

  3. I never knew about her, which is crazy, because I was all over the internet back then. I watched something Hulu had on about her and was so disgusted. Her parents failed her big time. I am glad she is continuing to speak of what happened to her. Creepy men hate having a light shined on them.

  6. I remember that time so well. Everyone thought it was gross, but she acted like all he was all she ever wanted with the sole exception of famous. It’s mind-boggling to me that even though the general public thought he was disgusting for being with her, they thought that she genuinely wanted to be with him to use him for fame.

    No one thought “Hey, that is a messed up little girl and she needs to talk to a mental health professional.”

    It’s heartbreaking to think of, but women like her speaking out makes a huge difference in not ignoring red flags.

    ps- I remember the horrible stuff Chrissy Teigan said to her when Courtney was younger and I’m still surprised she (Chrissy) hasn’t been canceled yet.

  8. I never thought this would still be in the news. She looked 30 when she was 17 and married that guy. I assumed it would come out that she was actually 30 and it was all a publicity stunt

    And they had some odd comments about the newest husband. I worry about them still. Ugh. Hope they can heal.

  10. Good for her! She got so much unnecessary hate towards her when she was a CHILD! Everyone failed her & the people that bullied & harassed her should be ashamed of themselves. She was a child & no one in her circle, especially her family, had her best interest at heart. What she went through was terrible & a real mom would’ve shut that shit down.

  11. I remember her. I am only 5 years younger than she is. And it was fucked up to me even as 12/13yr old. Now I can’t help think that her mom is a piece of shit. Like maybe at the time she thought it was ok but her mom should’ve protected her

  16. I remember the interviews she (they?) gave at the time. I was a kid myself and it felt like she was completely disassociated on drugs. 

    I randomly also saw some mom and daughter reality tv show she was in. It was completely insane to watch her fight with her mom who pimped her out as a child. All the other contestants were so shook. 

  17. One of my best friends in high school did a child marriage.

    He moved away when he was 18 and just cut communication with everyone. Turns out he got heavily addicted to drugs and it wasn’t intentional that he cut everyone out he just prioritized drugs.

    I reconnected with him a couple years ago when we were 29-30ish and met his wife.

    He told me about what he had been up to. He got clean when he was 24 but was too embarrassed to reach out to anyone and was happy when I found him.

    He the told me about his wife and how they met in rehab. He was visiting the rehab when he was 26 to talk about getting sober and she was there because she was drinking a lot. To me that was not too bad but then he mentioned that their relationship caused a lot of drama because they had to get her parents permission so I asked about that because I didn’t get it. She was 15. He was 26. They got married within a year and have been married since. They had to get her parents permission and I think he said they had to go to a different state because California wouldn’t allow it.

    He said this during dinner. I finished up my meal, paid the full ticket and left and haven’t talked to him since.

  20. What a weak ass article about a tough ass subject. Journalism in this country is in the toilet when nobody asks real questions to criminal politicians and maybe 3 soft ones to a survivor like this.

    I’m so glad to see her clawing her way out of that and using her experience to educate and empower.

    I hope she has a great life and future, she deserves it.

  23. I never thought it was a love match. It came across as her doing it for publicity, him doing it for publicity, and her parents allowing it for publicity. It was so gross. Her hair and makeup and busty outfits were over the top sex kitten stuff.

    I’m glad that she is now in a much better place in life. And she should speak out in public against underage marriages.
