  1. Cześć! You might remember me from the [typographic map of Poland](https://www.reddit.com/r/poland/comments/1nk961q/oc_i_created_a_typographic_map_of_poland_using/) I posted a month ago.

    One of the main type of comments was that some town or village is missing. So I found the way how to show all of them 🙂

    A little more context on what you’re seeing: OpenStreetMap dataset was used, filtered for every node tagged as a place (city, town, village, hamlet). This resulted in over 70k unique localities. Every single dot of light for each locality is placed at its geographic coordinates.

    The size of all dots is the same – whether it’s Warsaw or a tiny hamlet in Podlasie. This isn’t a map of population size – it’s about settlement presence.

    For me it feels less like a map and more like staring at a galaxy. I found it a beautiful piece of Data Art and wanted to share it with such great community that might appreciate it.

    Cześć! Być może pamiętacie mnie z [typograficznej mapy Polski](https://www.reddit.com/r/poland/comments/1nk961q/oc_i_created_a_typographic_map_of_poland_using/), którą wrzuciłem tu miesiąc temu.

    Wielu z was pisało w komentarzach, że brakuje niektórych miast i wsi. Znalazłem więc sposób, żeby pokazać je wszystkie 🙂

    Mały kontekst tego, co widzicie: Użyłem danych z OpenStreetMap, obejmujących każdy punkt oznaczony jako miejscowość (miasto, wieś, osada, przysiółek). Dało to w sumie ponad 70 000 unikalnych lokalizacji. Każdy punkt światła jest umieszczony na mapie w dokładnym miejscu jego współrzędnych geograficznych.

    Wielkość wszystkich kropek jest taka sama – nieważne, czy to Warszawa, czy mała osada na Podlasiu. To nie jest mapa wielkości populacji, ale mapa obecności osad.

    Dla mnie wygląda to mniej jak mapa, a bardziej jak galaktyka. Uważam, że to piękny przykład Sztuki Danych (Data Art) i chciałem się nim podzielić z tak wspaniałą społecznością, która, mam nadzieję, to doceni.

  13. I know that Silesia is densely populated because of the amount of cities, so what is the dark patch with one dot in the middle?

    Wiem że Śląsk jest bardzo zaludiony z powodu większość miast, ale gdzie jest ta czarna dziura na mapie z jedną kropką gdzie Śląsk jest?

    Góry?
