France – the power house
Praise the Atom for exporting almost carbon-free electricity.
But more seriously, it should be normalized by population. Swedden being at 33 TWh is impressive given then have something like 1/6, 1/7 of France’s population.
Also, I understand that Germany choose to destroy its own electricity grid (thanks Schröder), but what’s up with Italy doing even worse ?
Ireland has changed this.
Is there any plan in Italy to produce more electricity?
Slovenia being net exporter of energy requires some explanation. The nuclear powerplant in Slovenia is co-owned by Croatia which consequently owns 50% of produced energy and I am sure this energy is counted in net exports, but it should not be, as this is Croatian energy that just happens to be produced in Slovenia. If you exclude that Slovenia is net importer of energy.
Well, all I can get from this graph is that Italy would be fcked if they could not import electricity and France would be fcked if they could not export electricity. The actual winner is Cyprus 😉
Portugal and Spain are perfectly balanced.
This shows the duplicity of German energy policy… “No, we don’t want nuclear energy” bus “Yes, we import electricity from nuclear energy from other countries.”
Completely pointless and purely ideology-driven.
If you make it per capita, Germany will go way down the list, before you guys start “the discussion”.
Keep in mind Spain and Portugal mostly renewables
Here you can see Merkel’s legacy.
How much coal power did Germany have again?
“GW’s”
Oh comon, its not that hard. There is no plural of Watt, unless you do a “what’s up dog” joke.
AskGermany:
Schröder committed treason by destroyed nuclear power in your country. Now it’s clear he is Russian asset and he acted in Russian interests (financial gain and to have leverage over Europe in current war). WHY haven’t you reverted the traitorous decision? Just why?
Serbia is still net importer somehow after SNS piped 300 of our rivers to create “small hidro generation” and killed many many fish. I cannot fathom how that comes even close to sustainable or ecological or green.
Congratulations, we have a functioning European energy market.
To give the numbers a bit of relations. Germany produced 500 TWh in 2024. So the imports make about 5% of the energy, Germany used.
Furthermore, we could produce the energy at home. It’s just cheaper to buy from other countries, because they have their prices this cheap (Scandinavian because of renewables, France because they subsidise their nuclear energy heavily – but let’s see where France is standing with their budget).
And lastly, most of Germany’s electricity is coming from the Scandinavian countries (see Norway and Sweden also exporting a lot? Their electricity has to go somewhere. Denmark takes a bit but not much, so there is Germany eventually).
France baise ouais
Let’s just appreciate France for not being an absolute idiot when it comes to nuclear compared to some… Other members… Thanks, France.
Crazy to see that for Italy when they have such a rapidly growing data center sector.
GWh’s
I‘m actually positively surprised that Cyprus can cover their energy needs completely.
Same sub shitting on France when so many nuclear plants went on planned and unplanned maintenance in 2022/2023.
Now, look at you, dreaming of cheap electricity and heating bill for the next winter.
The Adriatic see is perfect for pump hydro storage. It only requires vision and a good plan!
They put Georgia in this chart!?!
Is there a graph which shows the same but relative to the country’s energy expenditure?
France really produces a lot of energy. Maybe the Germans should send someone over there to learn how.
Uk imports +33,300 GWh so just below Italy in the number 2 position. Luckily we have our best man Ed Milliband on the job so we’re on course to be no1 by the end of the year
Germany: Lets shut down some more nuclear plants
