The Israel Ministry of Health reported Friday that a doctor at Ichilov Hospital, associated with Tel Aviv University, contracted measles after treating an unvaccinated child who had measles.
This is the second doctor to become infected. Both physicians were vaccinated.
The Ministry of Health and Ichilov Hospital are conducting a comprehensive epidemiological investigation, and the event is being monitored and examined.
“This is an unusual incident that is currently being investigated by the hospital and the Health Ministry,” the ministry said.
The two doctors have mild symptoms and will remain in isolation until the infectious period of the disease ends.
Israel has been battling a measles outbreak this year with 1,778 total cases and eight deaths.
