RSF claims El-Fasher takeover as Sudan conflict worsens • FRANCE 24 English

[Music] This drone footage was released by the paramilitary group on Sunday. It shows what it claims were the first moments of its takeover of the army headquarters in El Fascher, the Sudin’s army’s last stronghold in the Darur region. Today is a historic day. Today we raise the flag of freedom. However, it’s unclear when the videos were taken and local fighters allied with the army say they are continuing to fight the RSF. If the group takes over the city, it would mark a major turning point in Sudan’s 2-year war, bringing all five state capitals under RSF control. A state it claims as the base for a parallel government established this summer. The city of Alfasir had been besieged by the group for the past 18 months, a blockade that has caused starvation among the 250,000 people remaining in the west of the city. On Thursday, the UN warned that thousands of malnourished children are at imminent risk of death. The war between the Sudanese army and the RSF began in April 2023. The fighting has displaced millions, plunged half of Sudan into hunger, and spread disease across the country.

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have released videos claiming their takeover of the Sudanese army headquarters in El-Fasher, the last army stronghold in Darfur. While RSF soldiers celebrate, local army-allied fighters say fighting continues. If the city falls, all five Darfur state capitals would be under RSF control, amid an 18-month siege that has caused severe starvation and displaced millions in Sudan’s two-year war.
