Apologies for the mirror source, only standalone article I can find, but BBC live updates have the same info here:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cm2zvjx1z14t?post=asset%3A040664e5-ae1d-4db0-99d4-50c3fd92dcd8#post
“A 35-year-old man from London who was also arrested at the scene has been released with no further action,” the update reads.
“It was reported in good faith to officers responding to the incident that he was involved in the attack, and following enquiries we can confirm that he was not involved.”
So it seems like this was a lone nutter
So the other guy’s offence was being black while on a train??
So, the LNER staff member remains in a serious condition after intervening to save lives. Hopefully, he makes it.
The primary suspect lived in Peterborough but it’s still not clear what motivated him to go on a stabbing spree.
There was a incident I remember in China I think where a man got a bad divorce verdict and decided to murder loads of people with his car. Sometimes it’s not terrorism but someone who decided society has wronged them and does something evil.

Deputy Chief Constable Stuart Cundy:
“Having viewed the CCTV from the train, the actions of the member of rail staff were nothing short of heroic and undoubtedly saved people’s lives.”
Hero. Hoping for a speedy and full recovery – they’re currently the last victim still in life threatening condition.

I get that it’s a part of police work but imagine being involved in a traumatic mass stabbing, potentially either trying to help people or confront the attacker and then you’re handcuffed and locked in a cell because someone mistakenly though you were also an attacker.
So as soon as the stabbing on the train was on the news, certain people were “Deport all immigrants, because this must be a Muslim plot because… ‘terrorism’. Then it was confirmed it was not terrorism and two persons of Caribbean background had been arrested, so now it must definitely be preplanned, so it must be drugs and gangs. Now one of the suspects has been released and its one one person who was involved only. If your thoughts when you hear about something like this are 1. must be immigrants and then 2. must be gangs when you have no other information then you have made an assumption based on nothing other than your expectations. If this turns out to be wrong you have to at least consider the possibility that your assumptions were flawed and might be based on nothing other than what you expected based on race. I’d encourage everyone to work through their thought processes and see where their errors were made and if you should maybe hold back rather than jump to the same conclusion on another occasion.

So, how are the racists going to continue framing this as terrorism now?
The only thin thread they were hanging on to was that, “two attackers couldn’t possibly be a coincidence!”
EDIT: Go on then. Show me where I’m wrong.
You’ve got to feel for the guy who was misidentified. Being on the train then wrongly arrested has to be an awful 24 hours.
So much speculation about this and yet in nearly every single thread about it everybody is speculating as if there could be *only one possible explanation*, whether outright stating or heavily implying that it’s down to some inherent condition of failure to have strong enough ‘British values’ or something, or a mental health breakdown.
Just because it’s bothering me, here’s a couple of hypothetical scenarios just to lay out exactly why shouldn’t play follow the leader with this or other similar cases.
We know eight or nine people ended up stabbed. How? Well, let’s imagine for example:
* One guy goes to stab another and a passenger or a number of passengers intervene, ending up with injuries themselves
* One guy goes on a random rampage
* Everyone in the altercation is known to each other and are travelling in a group. The altercation is over something that everyone was involved in. A threat goes too far in the moment
* Someone is paid to put a hit on someone else
* Revenge is involved somehow
etc.
The framing ‘one person randomly stabbed a bunch of strangers’ is just an assumption at this point as far as we know – right?
