>**Has France’s president, Emmanuel Macron, quietly changed the colour of the French flag without any announcement or anyone in the public really noticing?**
>The blue in the revered Tricolore has for more than a year been changed to a darker, navy shade at official buildings such as the Elysée Palace, the National Assembly, and the headquarters of the Interior Ministry.
>According to the journalists Paul Larrouturou and Eliot Blondet in their new book, “Elysée confidentiel”, Macron took the decision to move to a new blue back in July 2020, acting on the advice of the Elysée Palace’s then director of operations, Arnaud Jolens.
>”First of all, there are aesthetic reasons — this blue is more elegant,” Europe1 writes in its report. But above all, people close to the president told the broadcaster, Macron “wanted to reconnect with the French flag of 1793.”
>Europe1 also pointed to the influence of Admiral Bernard Rogel, Chief of the Military Staff of the President of the Republic, noting that the French navy already uses the darker navy blue when it flies the flag.
>Although the Elysée Palace has never communicated the flag’s revamping, a press spokesman confirmed to Le Parisien that the colour had indeed been changed.
“sacre bleu” literally
Thank God it’s not a cheap shot at it changing to a white flag. Tricolore is steeped in tradition and history and the French should be rightfully proud of their flag and their rich military history.

I too would prefer it if the Swedish flag changed its blue into a darker shade, like it historically was.
They’re talking about it now on TV… even though it’s been going on for over a year lol. Macron has changed the symbols a bit since his inauguration.
Time to change the unicode tho 🇲🇫
Might help make the red-white-and-blue tricolors that various countries use more easily-distinguishable.
LOL what, does he think that he is Napoleon? Who agreed to this decision?
You’re telling me that the mother of all flags in the world doesn’t have a standardised colour?
Last I heard over here in Portugal we even have official RGB codes. So odd!

>According to reports in both the broadcaster [Europe1](https://www.europe1.fr/politique/info-e1-le-drapeau-francais-a-change-de-couleur-4076943) and the [Le Parisen](https://www.leparisien.fr/politique/macron-a-change-le-bleu-du-drapeau-francais-14-11-2021-MYPVRL37XRHODBLPMD3JUIHFNQ.php) newspaper, it looks like he has.
