An announcement appeared on the website of the US Embassy in Belarus on October 31 regarding the situation on the Belarusian-Lithuanian border. The US authorities once again urged American citizens to leave Belarus.
The statement said that “on October 29, 2025, the government of Lithuania announced restrictions on crossing the land border between Lithuania and Belarus, which will remain in effect at least until November 30, 2025.”
“Crossing the border through the Šalčininkai checkpoint has been completely suspended. Passage through the Medininkai checkpoint will be limited — border crossing will be allowed only for persons falling under certain exemptions,” the US Embassy in Vilnius reported, noting that the exemptions include US citizens.
The message again reiterated the US government’s call to its citizens:
Do not travel to Belarus, in accordance with the US Department of State’s Level 4 travel advisory.
US citizens currently in Belarus are advised to leave the country as soon as possible.
Check up-to-date information on restrictions and border closures.
Follow reports from local media.
Review your personal security plans.
Keep all travel documents in order and readily accessible.
Always carry identification, including a US passport with a valid visa, if required.
The US Embassy in Minsk suspended its operations in February 2022 after Russia’s attack on Ukraine from Belarusian territory.
